Breaking Beakers, Tackling Teaching, Entering Edtech...Finding Clarity in a Career Blur

In the fast-paced and ever-evolving job market, finding clarity amidst career transitions can be a daunting task. As a young educator who embarked on a unique journey from chemist to teacher and then transitioned again into the exciting world of educational technology (edtech), I have experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of navigating these transitions. In this blog post, I will delve into the importance of clarity when exploring new career paths and share my personal dilemma in leveraging my scientific background to make impactful contributions in education.

1. Embracing Clarity: Without a clear vision, it becomes difficult to align your skills, passions, and values with potential opportunities. Clarity acts as a compass, guiding you through the myriad choices and helping you make informed decisions that align with your long-term goals.

2. A Personal Dilemma: After briefly working in the chemical industry, I felt a strong pull to transition into teaching. I wanted to make a direct impact on students' lives and contribute to the field of education. Although the transition was challenging, it allowed me to develop essential teaching skills and gain a deep understanding of the classroom dynamics. However, my scientific background remained underutilized, and I yearned to find a way to leverage it effectively. The first step, for me, was to pursue my master of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction (STEM focus). 

3. Unleashing the Power of EdTech: After earning my masters and moving through the educational ranks, I embarked on a new journey to combine my scientific expertise with innovative tools and platforms. Honestly, I felt the need to move from a school-based role to work remotely and maximize my time with family. Luckily, I was able to make it happen, but there was definitely a period when I was unsure as I navigated the path on my own. EdTech opened doors to a world where I could merge my passion for teaching, my analytical mindset, and my tech-savvy nature. The process involved gaining new skills, networking within the edtech community, and continuously learning and adapting to emerging trends.
